Why Age 70+ Shouldn't Rule Out Genetic Testing

Ovarian cancer is predominantly a disease of older adults, yet women aged 70 and older are far less likely to receive germline genetic testing. This study of over 113,000 patients reveals that 6.6% of patients aged 70+ carry actionable, high-risk genetic mutations. Older women were 1.5 times less likely to report a family history of cancer. Relying on family history to decide who gets genetic testing in this age group leaves a significant number of mutation carriers unidentified, missing crucial opportunities for targeted therapies and family screening.
